The History of ShockWatch
The story of the development of the impact sensor and the company that created the damage prevention industry.
In 1976, ShockWatch developed a simple, yet innovative way to monitor the handling of sensitive computer media in transport to prevent damage. ShockWatch’s product — a highly visible impact sensor embedded into a label affixed directly to the shipment — enabled potentially damaging shocks to be detected and pointed out to the receiver.
It soon became clear that this device created an effective visual deterrent to damage throughout the shipping and handling process. In short, its mere presence actually changed the behavior of the handler, leading to a reduction in damage-related costs.
Through technical progression and innovation, we at ShockWatch expanded the capabilities beyond impact sensors — creating a whole new class of products: Damage Prevention. Within this class, ShockWatch has developed equipment usage and damage monitors, heat sensors, tilt indicators, and other devices capable of recording impact information such as velocity, time, and direction.
Quickly growing into the global authority on damage prevention, ShockWatch now delivers Shipping and Handling Monitors and Equipment Monitors to businesses worldwide.
